I first came across Kerala as a teenager when I read my way through Arundhati Roy’s God of Small Things in two sittings straight. Her woven descriptions of the small town Aymanam, which is now a part of Kerala gave this state a mystical air and its been on my bucket list ever since. I mean, why wouldn’t you want to visit a place that has the tagline, ‘God’s Own Country?’
The dream came true partly when I visited Kerala for my honeymoon in 2012. We stayed at the beautiful Vythiri Resort near the tea plantation region of Wayanad. Given we were up in the mountains, the experience was quite different from the picturesque backwaters that Kerala is famous for. While I thoroughly enjoyed the seven days of gorging on all sorts of curries doused in coconut, attempting to row a boat on the beautiful Pookode Lake and the quaint tree-house in which we spent one of our nights, I left the place itching to come back.
The itch intensified when I read my friend, Tiny Taster’s tales of the first season of the Kerala Blog Express. What’s this? Well, the Kerala Blog Express is a first of its kind initiative by the Tourism Board of Kerala that takes a bunch of travel bloggers on a tour around the state to experience all the beautiful geography, food and culture Kerala has to offer. The first season saw bloggers from almost 80 countries applying to be a part of the tour and reading all of their updates left me wanting to return to Kerala even more.
Which is why I jumped on the opportunity and applied when the second season of the Kerala Blog Express was announced. As with most contests, votes do play their own role so it would be great if you could take a moment and vote for my application.
Vote for BawiBride to hop onto the Kerala Blog Express
What’s in it for you I hear you asking yourself? Well, not only do you get to receive two weeks of updates of what you can see, do and experience when you’re in Kerala next but you also get to read about me exploring how the flavours of Keralan cuisine can be incorporated into Parsi food. How does a Sali per Upma sound 😉 ?
To finish off, here’s me hoping I can continue my journal of ‘Jumpies’ in Kerala soon!
Good Luck on your trip to Kerala…
I voted for you for the Kerala bloggers trip. If you win, do go Kerala is awesome. I just went there myself last month. However the fish we got to eat was miniscule in quantity and very costly in hotels. Go to the dhabas if your immunity allows. 🙂
Excellent blog writing with beautiful photography enjoy reading such a nice blog
Thank you so much for your kind words! Means the world to me
